Goose Hill
05:42
|
|||
winter is a great time
to meet a girl like you
your smile is the sun
long afternoon
a bird is sleeping on a perch
on Craig Street
I can't sleep
I wonder if you see
tonight's full moon?
suspended in triumph
over the hood on a cold night
you enter my apartment
I turn on one lone light
I'll take the 77 from here
to Goose Hill
at least until you move to me
which won't be so soon
Do you see the full moon?
First love has a freshness I forget
New love will be bringing it back yet
Our love doesn't follow precedent
I am feeling feelings I cannot invent
hibernation's easy
as long as you are sleepy
but sleepy isn't easy when you work
9 to 5, I'm noon to 8
but we'll survive if only very late
we meet and have a cup of tea
I see my reflection in the
tea water at hand
I love to touch your hands
touch your hair
tomorrow never comes
if we don't let it in
but I'll sleep in
tonight I dream alone
but you're still there
in the full moon overhead
First love has a freshness I forget
New love will be bringing it back yet
Our love doesn't follow precedent
I am feeling feelings I cannot invent
Good Day Sunshine!
Good Day Sunshine!
Good Day Sunshine!

It Avails Not

Rachel
your poetry
laid out on a windowsill
in the sunlight
beaming
cars and trucks and steamboats steaming
Rachel
fill your glass
popping bottles
toasting to our innocence, maturity
music, wine, and poetry
I don't care if it's 9pm
I'm so sleepy
Sing again that Bright Eyes song
makes me want to sing along
All humanity on display
Nature in her wisdom makes it all go away
Rachel
in the night
the stars, the moon, the street lights, and the traffic lights
melodies
movies, drugs, and harmonies
Rachel
stranger, friend
lover, cancer, bad romancer
park cruiser
coke abuser
floral dresses
workplace snoozer
I don't care if it's 9am
let's go hiking
read again that Emerson
Thoreau and Melville and Whitman
Heave, ho! sail away with me
Ocean's depths are not too deep for me to sleep

Lovebirds
02:54
|
|||
We are lovebirds flying high
We are lovebirds, we're flying high
Please don't shoot me down
for I might cry
I never wanted to die

Oh Starry Winds
03:44
|

"Oh Starry Winds" by William Weaver Christman (1865-1937)
Far as the spiral nebulae
or girdle of the galaxy
the winds that drift from deep to deep
sow the soft stardust on the steep
Here on the cliff the dust will feed
the lichen spore and the starflower seed
Nurse the harebell that else might pine
and bring to bloom the columbine
The turf tonight shall be my bed
A stone the pillow for my head
The pine my harp
The brook my psalter
This rock my place of prayer, my altar
Oh Starry Winds! that never sleep
Bring me the secrets of the deep
Before my heart and soul disperse
and mingle with the universe

The Beat
05:01
|
|||
you've got to feel the beat
the beat of love
you can't deny it's there in you
it's love
The things that you won't tell me
The secrets in your eyes
But when your body's near me
your body does not lie
I don't know what I want
I don't know what to say
But when your body's near me
please don't go away
because it's easy to cry
to run away and hide
to crawl below and hide
but that's not fair to me
and that's not true to you
and that's not what we do about love
you've got to feel the beat
the beat of love
you can't deny it's there in you
it's love
The things that you won't tell me
The secrets in your eyes
But when your body's near me
your body does not lie
I don't know what I want
I don't know what to say
But when your body's near me
please don't go away
you've got to feel the beat
the beat of love
you can't deny it's there in you
it's love

Mexican Coffee
05:14
|
|||
out of sight
that Mexican coffee was really out of sight
it made my heart beat into flight
and you, you kept it flying all night
the bus is slow
if we're gonna go to Schenectady it's a long way to go
just watch the man seated across the row
and smile
it seems someone was shot in his apartment on Duane Avenue
walking on Lark Street it felt as if we were all alone
yeah, there were people but they were all on mobile phones
and I paid attention to the clutch of your hand in mine
and I tried to make my legs move with yours in time
as we walked on Lark Street last night
you slept with me
slept in my own bed for the first time
I woke up early to watch the morning light shine
on your face
and you, you breathe
let's go back out tonight
to Lark, Madison, or Troy
find some bass that is steady and tight
and dance
dancing with you it felt as if we were all alone
perhaps we stood right where the strobe light shone
and I paid attention to how your shoulder leads your waist
and I tried to make my hips move at the same pace as yours
dancing so light
